History
In the 1860s (1869) the “Prvni ceska akciova strojirna” company was founded – the original predecessor of our company. Through gradual development, the company became an important industrial business, which employed 600 workers in 1880. The main production programme intended for the Austro-Hungarian market and for export was manufacture of sugar factories and steam boilers.
In 1921 this company from Hradec Kralove became part of the largest Czechoslovakian engineering syndicate, the Škoda plants. This strengthened the company’s professional level as well as its standing on international markets. The period between the two world wars signifi ed further development of the basic production departments in the business at that time - i.e. breweries, steam boilers, gas plants, chemical plants and distilleries. Export was intended for the most advanced countries in Europe as well as for many countries in Asia, Africa and South America.
After World War Two the company underwent the standard process of nationalisation with the new name of ZVÚ. The main customers were countries in the former Eastern Block and also Egypt, China, Yugoslavia, Pakistan and similar. The extent of equipment manufactured was expanded to include petrochemical and ecological equipment.
The period after November 1989 brought fundamental changes when the business became completely independent, the name was modifi ed to ZVU and the company changed its legal form to become a private corporation. After further changes in the organisational layout, part of the construction and manufacturing capacity continued its activities from 1997 under the name ZVU Chemie. In 1999 - 2002 our company was part of the Austrian company, Böhler HDT. Since the beginning of 2003 when our company was completely bought out by the EXCON, a. s., engineering company in Prague, we have used the new name, EXCON Steel, a. s.
